AVA'S SURGERY GOES WELL....DIDN'T SLOW HER DOWN A BIT!!

Last couple of pictures of Ava before her surgery...taken that morning just before we left for Toronto.

Ava in Recovery Room

Ava now in her room for the night

During the Operative night

First morning post op

I can't believe the difference!(I kinda miss that ear to ear grin!)

First post operative day...looking a little stoned!

Dressed and ready to go home the afternoon of day after surgery. She definately does not like medical staff...was hysterical if the nurses or doctors got within 5 feet of her...she was Ok if they assessed her from the door...but if they entered the room....meltdown! She had an O2 sat monitor on so it monitored her oxygen saturation and her pulse and I took her BP and Temp.
I guess she was a bit of a handful in Recovery Room also...upon waking immediately pulled out her IV and when they were able to get another one in(in her foot this time....as far away from her hands as you can get!) they needed to resedate her as she was way too awake and fighting them with everything she had. Working in Recovery Room, I know how wild children can wake from an anesthetic...we often need four people to hold a 12-24 month old on a stretcher....it's like they have super human strenght!....the good thing is they never remember any of their Recovery Room experience....the drugs have an amnesic effect.

Slept the whole way home...finally able to relax knowing no medical staff will be entering her room.

Home only an hour and back playing already.

I don't know why, but I'm like shedding tears over here- part of me misses that old face (and like you said, her ear to ear grin) and part of me is rejoicing in her new look (and wow, her surgeon was GOOD). I'm glad everything went well. I'm curious to know how many more surgeries? Is it only one to repair her palate?

Kris,
The palate is one surgery and then when she is about 12 she'll need a bone graft from her hip to fill the gap in her gum line and then have an implantable tooth placed there.

They did a beautiful job. I'm glad that everything went well. I kept praying that her surgeon would use tiny tiny stitches so there would be little to no scarring. She just looks great. I'm glad that this is past you both now. On to more playing!

Such a sweetie and a little trooper! What a beautiful change but I understand you missing her grin. But, knowing Ava it will be back quickly as she's a happy, happy little girl!

Thankful for answered prayers and that it went so well!

I'M FREAKING SOBBING! SHE IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN I IMAGINED.
I am so profoundly moved by this little one.
Heal well, from the heart out.
The first time she tells you she loves you will make this heaven sent.

Thank you for posting pictures, Liz, Ava is SOOOOO beautiful! I feel for her on day 3 since that's the worse feeling day, isn't it? But I know she'll heal fast and be her old self soon. Sounds like she's a super fighter.

I've heard that the surgeons just "stretch" the lip closed, but is it more complicated than that? Ava's gap was large, but her lip looks full and luscious and beautiful. Is there a website you can recommend to learn more about this kind of surgery? As cute as she was before, her real outer beauty is sure shining through now.

I'm relieved to see that the arm splints look gentle. That sounded pretty horrible to me, though I know how necessary they can be.

Ave, sweetie, you are a trouper! I like your little earrings, too.

Ava is such a little trouper. She looked so amazing on Friday considering it had only been two days since her surgery. I hope she heals quickly.
