POST OP UPDATE ON AVA!

This past Wednesday Ava and I returned to Sick Kids Hospital to have her stitches and nasal splint removed. She had to have another general anesthetic for this procedure. It was just a half hour surgery and because I am an RN they discharged her from Recovery Room rather than having to go back to Day Surgery to be discharged. All around she was much happier this time around. They brought me into Recovery Room before she was awake so I was there when she did wake up. These Pics below are from later that afternoon once home.

I could cry looking at that sweet face! I'm not sure why, but I guess I didn't expect her to look so different. It doesn't look like she's going to have much of a scar. I hope my ignorance isn't offensive. I'm in awe. I love that girl of yours!

I see those arm splints don't slow her down much!

She looks great!

How much longer for the arm braces?

Tiff,
No offence taken!
Michelle,
She needs to keep the arm braces on for a total of 3 weeks post surgery date...on 24/7, only removed for bathing and getting dressed. They don't bother her during the day but she doesn't settle or sleep as well with them on...likes to run fingers through hair to settle to sleep and suck on knuckle of index finger...can't do either until splints come off.

Unbelievable. I am so glad that you are posting this, so that families considering adopting cleft palat children can see how it can be repaired seemlessly. When the pinkness tones down, you won't be able to tell that she had surgery. You have an amazing doctor.

It's wonderful to hear how great Ava continues to do with her recovery! She looks amazing and certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down too much with her splints!

What wonderful news. Ava is being such a big girl. I am so happy that everything has gone so well and that is wonderful news about them discharging her from the recovery room.

Thanks for documenting all of her procedures. My daughter will be going through this as well and it brings joy to my heart to see what a difference the surgeries can make.

Hugs,
Jonni

Liz, I can't believe how much Ava has grown since you brough her home! Her hair and her face- she is just becoming a big girl! The surgery has made marvelous improvements, but she sure was beautiful before! What a gift! We are waiting for our TA to travel to Hohhot for our little boy, now 20 months old! We check in on Ava's site now and then and it's so good to see her blossoming!
Many blessings,

What a beautiful girl you've been blessed with. She was beautiful before but the surgeon did an amazing job on the repair eh? The whole ordeal seems to have hardly affected - certainly hasn't slowed her down at all. What a trooper! Hope the next couple of weeks go by fast and healing continues to go as well as it is.

Hi there lady!
I brought a good friend of mine to your blog yesterday. He works where I do and he and his wife are adopting a little girl who they will name Grace and she has a cleft palat. I showed them how gorgeous Ava's surgery turned out and it brought a big smile to his face.

Also, tomorrow I am hosting a Blog Baby Shower for Elizabeth at Dragonfly and Ladybug. I hope you can drop by!
